Look Refreshed for Valentine's Day: A Guide to BOTOX® & Fillers

Love is in the air — and not just because retailers flooded their shelves with pink and red heart-shaped items weeks ago. If you’re coupled up, you’re probably thinking about how to celebrate your special someone this Valentine’s Day season. That might mean buying flowers or a thoughtful gift, or planning a nice meal.

It could also mean improving your own appearance. As they sit across the table from you at your Valentine’s Day dinner, your loved one can admire your refreshed visage. Taking care of yourself shows your partner that you value the relationship and want to keep things fresh and enjoyable.

We can help. At our New York City office in Union Square, Matthew W. Shawl, MD, and our team offer fillers and BOTOX®. With these cosmetic injectables, we have a way to help you look refreshed this Valentine’s Day and beyond.

What fillers and BOTOX can do

These two categories of cosmetic injectables work in different ways. To help you decide if you’d benefit from one or both of these treatments, it helps to know what each can accomplish.

BOTOX

Dr. Shawl offers BOTOX and a similar injectable, Jeuveau®, to treat dynamic wrinkles. These are the folds in your skin that develop because a muscle underneath moves the same way repeatedly. BOTOX and Jeuveau work by temporarily freezing the culprit muscle. This allows the skin above to relax, smoothing the wrinkle.

As a result, BOTOX and Jeuveau work extremely well for:

The results from these cosmetic injectables tend to last a few months before they begin fading.

Fillers

As the name suggests, fillers add volume to your face. This gives you a way to refresh your appearance because your face loses volume as you age. That can lead to saggier skin, hollow cheeks, wrinkles on the lower half of your face, and thinner lips.

Fortunately, Dr. Shawl can reverse all of that with these cosmetic injectables.

He can also apply fillers to add volume where you’ve never had it before. If you’ve always wanted fuller lips or more contoured cheekbones, this treatment can help.

The results from most dermal fillers usually last about a year.

What to expect with Botox and fillers

Getting treatment in either of these categories is a quick process with relatively little downtime. First, Dr. Shawl talks with you about your cosmetic goals this Valentine’s Day. This allows him to recommend the right type and amount of cosmetic injectable(s) for you.

Once you agree on a plan, getting the injections takes just minutes. Most people say treatment feels like a quick pinch.

You might have some bruising, swelling, or redness around the treatment area. It should fade within a couple of days. The only real recovery requirement is taking 24 hours away from strenuous activity. Other than that, you can get back to your usual activities immediately after your appointment.

Once your results start to fade, Dr. Shawl can reapply the cosmetic injectable to help you maintain your refreshed appearance.
